Created by Jimmy Welsh and offered through the Betfan group, Shrewd Tipster is a tipster service that draws heavily on the knowledge and understanding of the creator.
What is the product?
Unlike most sales pitches, Jimmy Welsh talks about more than just his service. He spends some considerable time deconstructing what makes a successful tipster service. This combined with a longstanding service (Shrewd Tipster has been operational since 2010 with a few breaks along the way) shows a tipster who has a firm understanding of his particular system. In the case of Shrewd Tipster, this is based around looking at better class races, specifically for older horses with a distance of 7 furlongs up to a mile and a half. This tight selection process allegedly helps Jimmy Welsh to make Shrewd Tipster as profitable as possible by focussing on races where he has the most possible information. This may well have some reasonable basis as Shrewd Tipster has achieved a reasonable enough strike rate of 28% for the year. The staking system for Shrewd Tipster is rather erratic with bets ranging from a single point all the way to 8 points on a bet. As is the norm for Betfan’s services, selections are sent out via email on a daily basis.
What is the investment vs. the rate of return?
There are 3 subscriptions available for Shrewd Tipster. These are a Silver Package which lasts for a month and costs £69, a Gold Package which costs £149 and lasts for 3 months and finally, a Platinum Package which costs £249 and lasts for 6 months. Whilst they do not typically offer refunds, Betfan do say that they will review all requests. In terms of income, Shrewd Tipster has made a decent 1488.71 points of profit since it started in March 2010. This year however, pickings have been rather slimmer with Shrewd Tipster making just 134.4 points of profit to date.
Does the product provide value for money?
This is a difficult call to make. Historically, Shrewd Tipster has performed well however the last year has been rather sub-par when compared with rival services.
Shrewd Tipster has a history of performing well and this is really key to considering its merits as a tipster service. The last year has been far from stellar and the betting can reach upwards of 20 points being staked in a single day which does add a strong element of risk. Personally, I find this to be rather off putting. If you are interested in Shrewd Tipster, I would recommend taking some time to see how it performs into next year before making any investment.
